It’s no secret that paperwork has a naughty little habit of going missing at the most crucial times – what a rascal!
But with technology advancing so quickly, the way we gobble up media to how we chew the fat with our nearest and dearest has completely changed. Think about it: books, newspapers, maps, pictures, letters, receipts, and even money have all dragged themselves into the 21st century by undergoing a digital makeover.
We’ve become so reliant upon our precious small glass screens that it got us thinking about the ways in which our relationship with paper has changed. As a result, we got lost in an Alice in Wonderland-esque digital rabbit hole. If we can access pretty much everything in our lives online, why can’t we access our most important documents? Well, that’s where we come in!
With going paperless fast becoming one of the hottest trends of the modern age, we thought we’d give you a heads up on what’s so fabulous about being a paperless human.
Mother Nature’s a bit of beauty, isn’t she? Well, we believe we should protect her at all costs.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve probably heard by now that climate change is a major problem due to our current habits. In fact, Scientists claim that if we don’t change our behaviour now, we only have 6 years and 345 days until the effects are irreversible! If that doesn’t make your hair curl, it’s also been said that human civilisation could come to an end by 2050. That’s less than 30 years!
This is something we take very seriously here at myFRP, and while we’re taking steps to change our personal habits, we thought we’d let you know that moving digital can improve your carbon footprint and help reduce deforestation - winner winner veggie dinner!
Have you heard that one large tree can provide oxygen for up to 4 people? And yet 300 million tons of paper are produced each year, with 2.6 gallons of water used to produce just one sheet! Going paperless will also reduce the economic damage ink cartridges amount to, polluting soil and water with heavy metals and eruptive natural compounds. Did you know it takes 3 quarts of oil to produce a laser ink cartridge and 3 ounces for inkjet cartridges? And 11 are thrown out every second! That means in just one week, over 6.6 million are tossed away.
Don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom over here.
As well as saving your pennies on paper and ink, storing your documents on your devices is absolutely free! Did you know 150GB of storage equivalates to approximately 70 filing cabinets? Think of all that extra space...
Across the pond, it’s estimated the average office employee prints a flabbergasting 10,000 sheets of paper a year! A large whack of that ends up in the bin. Offices that switch to paperless not only have less 'trash', but save on average $80 per employee. Come on, who doesn’t love a bit of cheeky extra cash?
If there’s one thing we know here at myFRP, it’s that time is precious. We always think we have plenty of it until we don’t.
Keeping all your important documents online saves you sifting through mountains of paperwork, jam-packed filing cabinets, or a cluttered study. Online you can file your documents by criteria, or search for your required document by simply typing in the search bar, then it will be effortlessly available to you in mere seconds.
On top of that, you can share your documents with a shedload of people at one time; sharing all that knowledge instantaneously! Just imagine how much more you could get done with your day?!
You know what they say, tidy home = tidy mind.
Going paperless means you have the fun and rewarding task of Marie Kondo-ing the hell out of your house or office space, controlling the chaos, and hopefully reducing your stress levels.
It’s been argued we spend up to 10 minutes a day looking for missing things, with paperwork being up there as one of the most lost items. That means we spend roughly 6 months of our lives looking for things! An extra 6 months on your hands? Start that bucket list now...
The dog chewed your homework? Not anymore. Moving to a more paperless space leaves less room for errors, documents being destroyed, misfiled, or even stolen.
I know what you’re thinking, what happens if I stub my toe, hop about in agony until I trip over my laptop charger, and knock my freshly brewed coffee over my hard drive? Have no fear, those really clever computer geniuses put together some snazzy secure storage systems like OneDrive and the Cloud for clumsy people just like me and you. That means if anything were to happen to your hard drive, all your documents will be backed up and you will easily be able to access them across all your devices.
So basically, you can take a peek at your stored files anytime, anywhere, whether that’s on the train, at the pub, in bed, even in outer space if your connection is strong enough!
So, if it all goes wrong, we’ll see you there in 2050.
Learning about your family history is important in understanding who you are.
